Kinja'd!!!

$2600, 154k miles, 3.4, auto, DX.

Came with a whole bunch of service records (yay!), guy I bought it from owned it since 2010 and 129k miles. Used primarily to go back and forth to their house upstate and haul shit. Not nearly as much rust as I normally see on Yotas of this vintage, and the retired cop I bought it from watched WAY too much Gas Monkey garage and was on his way to flat blacking the whole damn thing before it sold (as you can see on the bed). I should be able to get all of it off with some lacquer thinner since he did ZERO prep, as told by the over-sprayed leaves in the bed.

Plan is first to get ahead of the rust. I already ordered three cans of Eastwood internal frame coating, and will start to wire wheel the loose shit off of the frame hopefully by this weekend and coat it with maybe more Eastwood rust stuff and some sort of top coat before this warm-wave in the northeast wears off. There is a fair amount of bondo in the typical Toyota rust areas, but at least the dude tried staying ahead of it (albeit, badly, but better than nothing). If it does well into the summer, which according to everyone on the internet it will, because Toyota; it’ll get some real body work and fresh black paint.

Interior is/was pretty gross.. Just lots of coffee stains. No rips or cracks in the seats/dash/etc. That’s just elbow grease. It was weird opening the hood and seeing everything dry... quite the opposite from the Rover.

Now I need to change my avatar.

Congrats! I love these things... Interior is a spacious wonderland and the 3.4 does the jahhhhb.

It is a nice size interior but it feels way smaller than the Disco! That thing was like driving the popemobile. I don’t feel like I made a compromise like I felt sitting in a Ranger extended cab. I hope the 3.4 is as great as everyone says it is.

What year? The early 3.4 carried over the 3.0's headgaskets apparently, so those can be problematic. Other than that, it should be fine. Toyota also made a supercharger for that engine, so more power, same reliability.

That is one of the early ones, but at those miles it should be fine.

Sweet. I bought this partly to avoid dealing dealing with the head gasket in my Rover, wouldn’t want to fall back into that trap. Timing belt and water pump service was done at 129k.

OOh that one’s good. And the 5VZ is adequate.

Great trucks. The 5vz-fe is practically unkillable, and since its in 1st gen tacomas and 3rd gen 4runners as well parts are common. Congrats.

When the day comes and I have a big budget and a backup car, I WILL buy a Disco with a clean body and LS swap it (and all the electricals.....and pretty much all the awful mechanicals). They are in my opinion the best looking 4x4 ever made, so itll be worth it.

Come get mine. It isn’t california clean, but it’s VERY good for a northeast truck. It’s OBD1 too, so emissions exempt in many places.

I wish i had the money and time right now. Just sold my 3rd gen 4runner (with the 5vz) for a significant loss after it was eaten away by frame rust. I know thats not what you want to hear when you just got into similar vintage toyota, but pretty much every 90s truck is wasting away in the northeast. The 4runner was mechanically perfect though, and I found a worth replacement in an r50 Pathfinder:

Oh yea, I know how bad the Toyota rust can get. This one is still good enough to clean up and keep up on. That R50 is nice, I’ve always liked the way those looked, and the 3.5 is awesome.
